Is The Rolls Royce Wraith The Modern BMW 8 Series?

The late, lamented BMW 8 series was like a coupe version of the top-spec BMW 7 series limousine. Is it really gone, or did it just get a Rolls Royce badge?

For those of you who don't know, the RR Ghost is built on BMW's 7 series platform. The RR Wraith is a coupe version of the RR Ghost. That should make the Wraith a modern 8 series, right?

Well, the pillarless fastback design remains, the brooding headlights remain, and the V12 engine configuration remains.

Do you think the Roller has a distinct enough identity to be independent of any Beemer connotations, or is it the secret successor to the 8er's status?

Ten Dream Cars Your Favorite Automakers Refuse To Make

Carmakers love to create fantastic concepts only to tell us the world is not ready for them yet. And never will. We miss these ten cars that almost existed the most.

10.) Mazda Miata Coupe

The answer is always Miata, I know. But Mazda actually built 200 of these, only to tease us forever. Well done!

5.) BMW M8

Unless you consider a hybrid a worthy candidate, BMW doesn't have a rapid luxury coupé in their lineup at the moment. No, the M6 isn't one. That's an overweight gran turismo. The M8, on the other hand, could have been the ultimate BMW.

The problem is, the new 8 Series is called the Rolls-Royce Wraith.

4.) Mid-engined Corvette

Some say Corvette's shouldn't go mid-engined. But then, just look at a Mosler...

3.) Jaguar C-X75

The C-X75 prototype is pretty close to being a finished product. Jaguar just isn't big enough to build it right now. But the world needs a new XJ220 for sure.

2.) Volvo R Wagon

Volvo talks about big power Polestar cars, but delivers little. We don't want R-Design, we want R Wagons. For the whole family.

1.) Cadillac Flagship

There was the Sixteen, the Cien, the Ciel, and now the Elmiraj. Just build one already.
